Lunch Program

Lunch is provided daily through the Maschio's Food Service. At present, student lunches are $2.25 which includes a choice of hot or cold entrée, a side dish of fresh carrots or a garden salad, a beverage of choice (milk, chocolate milk, iced tea, or spring water), and a dessert.

Health

The Monmouth-Ocean Educational Services Commission (MOESC) provides a full-time school nurse. Our school has fully equipped health facility. The school health services support the educational goals of the school. There services, provides by the nurse, include:

1. Daily assessment of children's heath concerns and monitoring communicable disease

2. Administration of medicines and treatment per parental consent, order from child's doctor, and basic first aid procedures/emergency care

3. Referrals to physicians or community services

4. Mandatory annual vision and hearing screening

5. Scoliosis screening

6. Maintenance of student health records and files (i.e., height and weight) update record of faculty and staff (i.e., Mantoux and TB)

7. State report – immunization and annual non-public report

8. State mandated policies

 

Guidance

The principal, vice- principal, faculty, priests, school nurse, and township police officer provide informal guidance for students when the need arises. A licensed social worker, provided by Catholic Charities offers counseling one day per week and if necessary refers parents and/or students to an appropriate counselor. Our social worker also conducts motivational workshops within the classroom setting focusing on character education issues. The parish pastor, who is also a certified counselor, is readily available to students and parents. Our vice-principal provides academic direction for eighth grade students preparing for high school placement. The Monmouth-Ocean Educational Services Commission (MOESC) provides us with Child Study teams necessary for academic evaluation. Centra State Medical Center and Kimball Medical Center provide programs addressing concerns related to students' needs.

Remedial

The Monmouth-Ocean Educational Services Commission (MOESC) provides Compensatory Education, Supplemental Instruction, English as a Second Language, Speech Therapy, Special Education inclusion teacher, and para-professionals assisting students in need as deemed by a formal Child Study Team evaluation. These services accommodate students in kindergarten through eighth grades.

Resource Room

Our Resource Room came into being in 1989 with the primary purpose of assisting students who required help in handling academics and to be able to continue to receive a Catholic Education. The classes coincide with the Language Arts and Math classes being taught in grades five through eighth. The Resource Room teacher is responsible for the subject matter, assessment, and reporting to parents. Students in the Resource Room are those who have been identified by the Child Study Team evaluation, through the results of standardized testing, and/or parent and teacher recommendation. Since one goal of the program is to prepare the students to cope with the demands of a regular classroom, students may exit the program when they have demonstrated this ability.

Enrichment

Math Team

Open to all interested seventh and eighth grade students, The Saint Veronica School Math Team promotes the concept of doing math “for the fun of it”. Members of the Math Team meet weekly to enhance problem solving skills, learn advanced concepts, share creative solutions, and ultimately compete against other schools in a variety of local contests.

Gifted and Talented Program

Saint Veronica School offers students in grades six through eight with high academic ability, an opportunity to participate in COGNETICS, a National Talent Network Program. In this program students are offered a sequence of activities to encourage their maximum potential. These activities include:

•  Participation in skill-building activities for problem solving.

•  Working “hands on” as a team member to develop and build an unusual and inventive problem solution.

•  Formally researching the facts, figures, and concepts that make a solution successful.

•  Demonstrating team solutions at exciting Creative Expositions , modeled after adult professional conferences. Students present their team projects along with numerous participating schools in the region.

Qualified students in grades six though eight also are given the opportunity to attend Academic Interest Lectures and Expositions at local colleges the ROGATE program.

 

Transportation

J & R Transportation through MOESC provides bus service for students who reside in Farmingdale, Howell, and Jackson Townships . Busing is also available to some Freehold residents provided they have a Howell mailing address.

 

Extended Care

The Extended Care Program was established in the fall of 1991 to meet the rising needs of working parents and their children in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Our school runs a beautifully equipped, cheerful program staffed by our own faculty from 7:00 AM until 8:50 AM and from dismissal until 6:00 PM . On each scheduled early dismissal day, Extended Care is offered from 1:15 until 6:00 PM . For registration information and current fee schedule, contact the Extended Care Staff at 732-364-4130. Extended Care does not operate on days when school is not in session. The faculty members who run this program are certified in CPR and First-Aid procedures in case of emergencies. The supervision of homework, indoor/outdoor play, gym time, arts and crafts, and seasonal parties are part of the daily routine. “A home-away-from-home” atmosphere is provided without sacrificing rules and safety procedures.
